BERNIE B. MARTIN

Bernie Martin of Prairie View, IL, formerly of Downing, MO, died October 17, 2007, at Condell Medical Center in Libertyville, IL.

He was born October 25, 1931 at Richland, IA to Harry and Vivian Martin, the family moved to a farm near Downing, MO, in March of 1944. Bernie was raised on that farm, where his brother Ronnie still resides.

Bernie graduated from Downing High School in 1950. He was a sergeant in the Army and was stationed at various U.S. bases. He met his future wife in 1953 while serving at the NIKI Site Base in Vernon Hills, IL. Bernie married Jeanette Blocks of Prairie View, IL in 1956 and had 51 years of marriage. He was a machinist for 37 years, upon his retirement, he served as a golf ranger at various golf courses. Bernie also enjoyed sports at the youth, high school and professional level.

Bernie is survived by his wife, Jeanette; his children, Pamela Toupence (Richard) of West Milford, NJ, Roger Martin (Patricia) of Arlington Heights, IL, and Sally Martin of Cave Creek, AZ; five grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; brothers, Francis, Ralph, and Ronnie; sister, Kathleen and many friends in the Downing area and also where he lived.

He was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Anna Lee; and child sister, Imogene.

Funeral services were held October 22, 2007, at the St. Mary of Vernon Church where he faithfully attended, with burial in the St. Mary Cemetery, Buffalo Grove, IL. Pallbearers were his grandchildren.
