DONALD E. ALEXANDER
(10/22/1946 – 11/3/2007)



Donald Eugene Alexander, 61, of St. Charles, MO, formerly of Memphis, died Saturday, November 3, 2007 at Pilot Mound, IA.

He was born the son of Herbert and Leverne (Gundy) Alexander on October 22, 1946 in Crawford, Missouri.

Don graduated from Scotland County R-I High School in 1964. He entered the United States Marine Corps on March 31, 1966, stationed in Vietnam from October 1966 to October 1967. Don was awarded a purple heart in 1967.

He married the former Donaleen Hohstadt on August 15, 1970. She survives.

Don grew up on a farm in Memphis. He was a master plumber by trade. He retired as a mechanical inspector for the city of Springfield, MO. Following retirement, he worked part-time for the St. Charles County Voting Committee.

For his enjoyment, Don and his cousin Jim looked forward every fall to assist in the harvest with their family.

He was preceded in death by his grandparents, parents, father and mother in law, and a nephew.

He is survived by his wife, Donaleen, of the home; his sons, Darrell and wife Lauren Alexander of St. Joseph, MO and Douglas Alexander of Ft. Rucker, AL; his brothers and sisters, Verna Mae and husband LaVern Weilbrenner of Bloomfield, Dorothy and husband Bob Hunolt of Rutledge, Karen and husband Orrie Muench of Pilot Mound, IA, Boyd and wife Jeannie Bissell and Betty and husband John Wheeler, all of Memphis, Bob and wife Helen Bissell of Pulaski, and Barbara and husband George Mathes of Lebanon, MO; many nieces, nephews, and friends.

Memorial services were held on Saturday, November 10, 2007 at the Memphis United Methodist Church with Rev. Terry Lippstreu officiating. Ann Luther was the pianist and special music was provided by vocalists Lori Ferrari and Tim Anderlik. Inurnment followed the service in the Friendship Cemetery north of Crawford. Graveside military rites were performed by the Wallace W. Gillespie Memorial V.F.W. Post #4958 of Memphis.

Memorials were suggested to the Friendship Cemetery and can be left at or mailed to: Gerth Funeral Service, 115 S. Main St., Memphis, MO 63555.

Arrangements were under the direction of the Gerth Funeral Service from its Memphis chapel.
