MARIE GEORGANNA BIRKY
(5/20/1929 – 12/7/2007)



Marie Georganna Birky, 78, of Wyaconda died Friday, December 7, 2007 at the Scotland County Care Center in Memphis.

She was born on May 20, 1929 in Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada, the daughter of Louis and Adele (Persian) Laramee.

Georganna attended St. Ignatius Catholic school and church in Winnipeg.

She married Lester Leonard Birky in Winnipeg on December 2, 1949. He preceded her in death on December 27, 2002.

To this union four children were born.

The Birkys lived in Delavan, IL, for 17 years and moved to the farm in Wyaconda, MO, in 1964.

Georganna worked at both the Clark County Nursing Home in Kahoka and the Scotland County Care Center in Memphis as a certified nurse’s aide. She was also employed in the Recorder’s Office at the Clark County Courthouse and as a librarian for the Wyaconda School system. She was last employed for the Community Action Agency through Heartland at Kahoka until she stayed home to take of her husband due to his failing health.

Georganna was a member of the Disabled American Veterans Auxiliary. She enjoyed crocheting, gardening and being on the farm raising cattle with her son Jake’s help. Spending time with her grandchildren and great grandchildren was also special to her.

Preceding her in death were her parents; two sisters, Rose and Irene; and two brothers, Roland and Peter.

Survivors include her children: Lewis Paul Birky, and Jacob and wife Julie Birky all of Wyaconda, Carol Ann Stewart of Maywood, MO, and David Glenn and wife Graceilla Birky of Williamstown, MO; twelve grandchildren: Casey Joe, Rose Marie, Dorothy, Leanne, Lester Joe and Emily, Jason Daniel, Kala Leann, Sarah and Wyatt, and Tyrel Lester and Cole Bradley; four great grandchildren: Karly Diann, Nicole Marie, Ashley Jo and Daniel James; two sisters: Loreen Hill and Denise Post, both of Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada; and one brother, Walter Laramee of Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada.

Funeral services were held December 10th at the Wyaconda Baptist Church with the Rev. Rick Seaton officiating. Special music was provided by Marilyn Hales, organist, and Wayne Blum, vocalist. Pallbearers were Jake Birky, Lewis Birky, Jason Birky, Gene Priebe, Cecil Jones, and Carl Hammond. Honorary bearers were Bobby Clifton, Keith Nixon, Dean Barber, and Wayne Wagner. Burial was in the New Woodville Cemetery, east of Wyaconda. Memorials were suggested to the family in care of the Gerth Funeral Service, 115 N. Main St., Wyaconda, MO, 63474.
