Tigers Capture District Campus Bowl Crown

Scotland Countyís Campus Bowl team captured the district championship Saturday and will advance to the state tournament to be held at Rock Bridge High School in Columbia on May 5th.

The Tigers defeated host Schuyler County in the title game, 265-170, after blasting South Shelby in the semifinals, 330-155.

Scotland County reached the afternoon championship round by earning the top seed as a result of winning all three of their matches in the morning rounds and averaging the most points per game. The morning rounds reduced the number of teams from ten to four.

In their first morning game, the Tigers downed South Shelby, 295-255, and then knocked off defending district champs, Knox County, 325-125. Putnam County fell next, 205-125, to complete a perfect record in the preliminary round games.

SC senior captain Julie Triplett was named to the All-District team, answering an average of 13.8 toss-ups per game, the most of any competitor.

Other members of the newly-crowned district champs are seniors Hannah Kiddoo and Loren Billington, juniors Jeff Kice, Ben Wiley, and Nathan Purvis, and sophomores Christina Duzan, Dylan Gelbach, and Tyler Troutman.

The five wins in the tournament upped SCís overall record to 28-6.

The district tournament held at Schuyler County R-I High School in Queen City hosted these high schools: Salisbury, Paris, Canton, Putnam County, Westran, South Shelby, Milan, Knox County, Scotland County, and Schuyler County.
