SCR-I Track Athletes Advance To Sectionals

The 2007 track season came to a close for most area athletes on Saturday, May 5th in Brookfield at the Class 2 District 4 meet. However the top four finishers in each event extended the year at least one more event on the march toward the state championship. The Scotland County boys track team had three qualifiers and the girls squad advance a single entry to the Class 2 Sectional track meets next week.

Casey Parrish finished fourth in the district meet in the 1,600-meter run to advance to sectionals, which will be held May 12th at Centralia High School.

The Tigers 4x200 meter relay team of Bryce Blomme, Grant Blomme, Matt Wickert and Trey Crow finished fourth as did the 4x400 relay squad of B. Blomme, G. Blomme, Crow, and Joe Spurgeon.

Bryce Blomme narrowly missed advancing to sectionals in a third event as he finished fifth in the 400-meter dash. Parrish was sixth in the 800-meter run and Lance Smith took seventh in the shot put.

Kirsten Johnston will represent the Lady Tigers at the sectional meet. She took third place in the 800-meter run.

The performances came against some stiff competition. District 4 consisted of teams from Centralia, Macon, Schuyler County, Putnam County, Westran, Brookfield, Clark County, Fayette, Hallsville, Harrisburg, Highland, Marceline, Milan, Salisbury, and South Shelby.
