SCR-I Rally Falls Short in 4-3 Loss To Clark County

A late rally ended one run short for the Scotland County softball team which fell to Clark County 4-3 on August 23rd in Memphis.

The two teams locked in a pitching dual early on. Kelly Lister blanked the Indians for the first three innings before Clark County finally broke through in the fourth frame.

The visiting team went ahead 3-0 with some timely hitting.

“They had some timely hitting in their big inning,” said Coach Kim Small. “It wasn’t a matter of us making any defensive mistakes, they just hit the ball in places where we were not.”

Scotland County trimmed the deficit to 3-1 in the bottom of the fifth inning. Kellyn Wickert singled and later scored in the inning on a passed ball.

Clark County erased that rally with another run in the top of the sixth inning that made it 4-1.

The Lady Tigers mounted one last push in their final at bat. Lister walked to start the rally. Courtesy runner Elizabeth Small moved into scoring position on a base knock by Jessica Bair. She cut the deficit to 4-2 on a passed ball. Bair then scored on a base hit by pinch hitter Andrea Shelley.

But the rally ended at 4-3 when Clark County turned a double play on a line-out to right field.

Lister took the loss, throwing a complete game. She gave up six hits, walked three and hit a batter while striking out three.

Kirsten Johnston went 2-3 at the plate to pace the offense. Lister was 1-2 with a walk.

The loss dropped SCR-I to 0-2 on the year. The Lady Tigers JV squad fell to Clark County 3-1 in the opener.
