Bulldogs Bounce SCR-I 9-1 In Softball Action

A critical error opened the door for the first of what proved to be many Brookfield scoring rallies as SCR-I dropped a 9-1 conference game on the road on September 17th.

The host scored three unearned runs in the second frame, all with two outs, to race out to the 3-0 advantage.

SCR-I was set down in order through the first three innings before finally breaking through in the fourth frame. With one out Deidra Dochterman doubled to centerfield. She came in to score on a double by Kelly Lister to cut the deficit to 3-1.

Brookfield took advantage of another miscue in the bottom of the inning to score a single run. But Lister worked out of the jam to leave the bases loaded.

Tara Matlock cut down a runner at the plate in the fifth inning but that only slowed the attack momentarily as Brookfield still tallied a pair of runs to push the advantage to 6-1 before adding three insurance runs in the sixth.

SCR-I threatened in the fifth inning. Melissa Cotton led off with a base hit. Kirsten Johnston reached on an error before Dochterman loaded the bases with a walk. But the Lady Tigers were unable to take advantage of the scoring opportunity.

Lister took the loss on the mound. She went seven innings, allowing 12 hits and walking four while striking out three.

SCR-I fell to 4-10 overall and 1-2 in Tri-Rivers Conference play.

The junior varsity lost 4-2 in the opener. Skyler Alderton tripled and scored on a base hit by Aimee Dale who scored on an RBI hit by Ti Waibel.
