Raiders Rally to Beat Lady Tigers 11-5

An early 2-0 lead disappeared for the Scotland County softball team and a late rally fell short as North Shelby handed the Lady Tigers an 11-5 defeat in Tri-Rivers Conference action.

Kirsten Johnston tripled to open the game for SCR-I. She scored on a triple by Deidra Dochterman. An RBI groundout by Kelly Lister made it 2-0 for Scotland County.

Kaitlin Caldwell retired the side in order in the bottom of the first inning. But North Shelby broke through for four runs in the second frame.

The deficit grew to 7-2 before the SCR-I bats struck again in the top of the fifth. Andrea Shelley singled to start the rally. A base hit by Tara Matlock was followed by a single from Valerie Oldham. The ball got by the North Shelby outfielder, allowing both runs to score. Oldham scored on an RBI double by Dochterman that trimmed the North Shelby lead to 7-5.

The Raiders answered in the bottom of the inning, tallying four more runs to produce the final margin of 11-5.

Dochterman was 2-3 with 3 RBI and a run scored. Matlock went 2-3 at the plate and Oldham also had two hits.

The loss dropped SCR-I to 7-13 on the year and 2-4 in conference play.
