Lady Rams Power Past SCR-I In Softball Conference Finale
An early lead for the Scotland County softball team disappeared in impressive fashion, as Schuyler Countyís Tara Verkuilen three-run home run capped a 5-0 rally that propelled the Rams to a 6-3 win over SCR-I in Lancaster on October 1st.
The Lady Tigers jumped ahead 1-0 in the teamís first at bat. Kirsten Johnston started the game with a double. She scored on a double by Deidra Dochterman to make it 1-0.
SCR-I hurler Kaitlin Caldwell held the potent Schuyler County offense in check through the first two innings. But Schuyler County put two on the board in the third to pull ahead 2-1.
Verkuilen made it 5-1 when she deposited a Kelly Lister pitch over the fence in center field.
Scotland County battled back in the top of the fifth. With one out, Valerie Oldham tripled. She scored on an RBI double by Dochterman. Lister delivered an RBI single to make it 5-3.
Schuyler County added an insurance run in the sixth to make the final margin 6-3.
SCR-I fell to 7-15 on the year and finished the Tri-Rivers Conference schedule with a 2-5 mark.
Schuyler County won the junior varsity game 13-4. Skyler Alderton scored a pair of runs for the Lady Tigers, going 1-1 with a walk and a double.
