Eighth Grade Boys Cap Off Perfect 8-0 Start With Putnam County Tourney Title

The Scotland County boys eighth grade basketball team capped a perfect 8-0 start to the 2007 season with the championship at the Putnam County Tournament last week.

The Tigers opened the year October 29th with a 44-12 win over Clark County in Kahoka. Harley Stone led SCR-I with 15 points and Derrick Muntz added 12 points as the Tigers post tandem dominated the paint.

SCR-I traveled to Canton the following night and improved to 2-0 with a hard-fought 51-45 victory. Muntz poured in a career-high 29 points to lead the Tigers.

Scotland County knocked off Putnam County 52-15 in front of the home crowd on November 1st capping of a successful first week. Muntz led the Tigers with 14 points. Stone finished with 12 points and Brock Bondurant added 10 points while Andrew Mathes pitched in with six points.

The Tigers went on the road November 5th traveling to Queen City where SCR-I bested Schuyler County 32-22. Bondurant topped the scorebook with nine points. Muntz added seven points and Stone finished with six.

The team improved to 5-0 with a 41-11 win over Putnam County on November 6th in Memphis. Stone led the way with 10 points. Muntz finished with eight and Laden Holt added seven points. Taylor Rader scored five points as did Bondurant to give the squad a balanced scoring attack.

The Putnam County Tournament opened November 12th with SCR-I mashing Milan 43-19. Muntz poured in 16 points and Stone had 11 points.

The Tigers then knocked off the host squad 34-22 on November 13th. Stone led all scorers with 15 points.

SCR-I met Schuyler County in the title game of the event on November 15th and the Tigers brought home the trophy with a 34-16 victory. Stone scored 15 points and Muntz added eight to lead the team to the championship.
