Lady Tigers Drop Basketball Season Opener to Warsaw

The 2007-2008 basketball season tipped off for the Scotland County Lady Tigers on November 19th in Memphis. Warsaw put a damper on the debut for SCR-I as the visiting squad took home a 71-31 victory.

“We just didn’t execute throughout the majority of the game and Warsaw took advantage of that,” said Coach T.J. Young. “Give them all the credit, they are a very talented team.”

SCR-I had its moments in the first half, before being outscored 32-10 in the games final 16 minutes.

Melissa Cotton hit a pair of three pointers to keep Scotland County close in the first half before Warsaw closed out the second period with a big run to pull ahead 39-21 at the intermission.

Turnovers fueled the key run and also prevented Scotland County from putting together any offense in the second half.

“Turnovers and a lack of continuity on offense really hurt us tonight,” said Young. “We turned the ball over 25 times. That makes it hard to compete against a really good team.”

Cotton led Scotland County with 14 points on the night. Kirsten Johnston added 11 points.
