Chamber Sets Promotional Schedule For New Year
The New Year was ushered in by several familiar faces at the Memphis Area Chamber of Commerce. The local merchant’s group retained its officer group for the new year at the January 8th meeting held at The Fabius Restaurant.
Chuck Kigar will continue to serve as president of the group while Tammy Adams was retained as secretary and Marsha Wright agreed to continue as the group’s vice president. Sandy Arnold will replace Teresa Shelley as the MACC treasurer.
Membership dues will remain $60 for 2008, with that revenue being used to help maintain the MACC website and also fund the numerous promotional events and other advertising done by the Chamber to promote member businesses. The chamber had approximately 60 dues paying members last year and hopes to see that number grow as the 2008 membership drive kicks off this week.
MACC will host its annual Valentine’s Day Dance, scheduled for February 16th from 7:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m. at the Scotland County Fitness Center.
The group is also working with Dr. Harlo Donelson regarding a possible music show sometime during March.
The Chamber hosts a customer appreciation pancake day in April.
Kigar said the group is currently considering returning the community art show sometime in May, but those efforts will depend on additional volunteer support.
The first half of the year will round out with one of MACC’s most popular events, the annual Peanut Day fundraiser, that has been scheduled for June 14th.
The group will continue to offer the Safe Stops project for Halloween and will again kick off the holiday shopping season locally with the traditional “Lighting of the Square” ceremony the Friday after Thanksgiving.
The Chamber of Commerce hosts a dinner meeting the second Tuesday of each month at The Fabius Restaurant.
