Former Pay Day Loan Clerk Facing Felony Charges

A former clerk at the Scotland County Pay Day Loan office is facing felony charges after an investigation by the Memphis Police Department turned up more than $15,000 missing from the business.

Teresa A. Bliefert, 53, is charged with class C felony stealing, class C felony of misapplication of funds of a financial institution and class D felony making false entries in records of a financial institution.

Bliefert allegedly took money from the Memphis business from June 2006 through November 2007 in the form of unauthorized loans written to herself and her family, unauthorized payroll checks written to herself, and theft of monies that were to be deposited into the business account.

Charges were filed against Bliefert on January 31, 2008.

A total of $15,717.04 was reportedly taken from the business over the 17-month period.
