Fourth Annual Cancer Fund Benefit Seeking Donations
In the past three years, a local charity has witnessed the fruits of its efforts multiply tenfold. But don’t expect the Scotland County Cancer Fund to sit back and enjoy its early success.
Board members are preparing for the Fourth Annual Ham & Bean Supper and Benefit Auction to be held March 1st at the Memphis VFW beginning at 6:00 p.m.
The five member board along with other volunteers began hitting the streets this week seeking items for the auction of financial support for the event.
“This has been one of the very successful and essential fund raisers for the organization,” said board member Kim Nicoli. Since the organization began in September 2004, it has been able to help Scotland County residents who have been diagnosed with cancer. When we started, we were only able to give $50 per person, per year, but thanks to the overwhelming support of our community with donations and memorials, we are now able give $500 to each person per year.”
The financial support helps cancer patients and their families offset the added costs of seeking cancer treatment, such as travel, lodging, and of course doctor’s expenses.
All money raised by the organization stays in Scotland County to assist local cancer victims.
If you would like to make a donation or have item(s) for the auction contact Nicoli or fellow board members Margaret Curry, David Trueblood, Chris Tinkle, Brenda Wilson.
