Little League Opens Sign-Up Period, Announces New Leagues Forming

On February 16 sign-ups for the 2008 softball and baseball season will begin. They will be held at Scotland County R-I High School commons from 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. This sign-up will be the first of three sign-ups for the league. The additional sign-ups will be held on March 1st at the high school commons from 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. and March 18th from 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. at the high school commons. The dead-line to sign-up for the 2008 season is March 21st at 5:00 p.m.

Any player participating in the Scotland County Little League will be eligible to participate on an all-star team that is formed from all satellites in the NEMO Baseball & Softball Association. The all-star teams are offered in the age divisions beginning at 9-10 year old baseball and 10 and under softball on up. If your son or daughter is interested in participating on an all-star team, please bring a copy of their birth certificate to the sign-up. The board members at sign-ups will review the birth certificate and register the youth to receive a Babe Ruth identification card. This card may be used in place of their birth certificate throughout their Babe Ruth baseball or softball career.

The NEMO Baseball & Softball Association along with the Scotland County Little League will be offering an additional age division for the softball and baseball players. This season will be the first season for the Association to extend into the 16 to 19 year boys baseball and the 18 and under softball divisions. The Association is dedicated to offering competitive play to all youth interested in playing in these divisions. If anyone is interested, please sign-up as early as possible.

The 18 and under girls division will have the opportunity to participate in the KATZ softball league in Kirksville along with playing additional teams from the NEMO Association. The cost for each player in this division is $25 per player. If the team desires, they may also enter into additional tournaments around the area for additional competitive play.

The little league directors currently are seeking a competitive team for the 16 to 19 year boys division. The Association has realized the importance of this age division for youth in northern Missouri and is currently working on finding teams for this division to compete with. If the Scotland County Little League is unable to field an entire team, the NEMO Association would like to field a consolidated team from multiple satellites. The cost for each player in this division is $25 per player.

Questions, regarding the new age divisions may be addressed to Lori Rader at 660-341-5007 after 4:00 p.m.

Along with the new divisions mentioned above, the league will continue to offer 5-6 year old co-ed baseball; 7-8 year old boys baseball; 8 & under girls softball; 9-10 year old boys baseball; 10 & under girls softball; 11-12 year old boys baseball; 12 & under girls softball; 13-15 year old boys baseball; and 16 & under girls softball.

The cut-off date for age divisions is as follows: girl’s softball is December 31, 2008 and boy’s baseball is April 30, 2008. The cost for each player in these age divisions is $15 per player.

If you have any questions on any of the above divisions, please feel free to contact any of the current Scotland County Little League board members. Mike Campbell, president; Matt Buford, vice president; Curtis Ebeling, secretary; Michella Hull, treasurer; Lori Rader, Rich Rader, Kelly Cooley, Jarrod Blessing, Marie Ebeling, and Ken Hull.

The league will also be taking sign-ups for volunteer coaches during the sign-up times. Anyone interested in coaching a team or helping with a team, is asked to stop by and express their interest at the sign-ups.
