Downing Man Killed In Crash on Highway 63

A Downing man was killed in a two-vehicle accident on US Highway 63 just south of the Iowa state line at 10:45 a.m. on Friday, February 22nd.

According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol, the accident occurred when a 1986 Ford driven by Matthew W. Baumgardner, 28, was northbound on Highway 63. Baumgardner turned into the path of a southbound 2001 Peterbilt driven by Thomas R. Brown, 37, of Harrisonville, IL.

Baumgardner was pronounced dead at the scene by Schuyler County Coroner Douglas Norman at approximately 11:30 a.m. Brown was uninjured in the accident.

The Patrol was assisted at the scene by the Schuyler County Fire and Rescue, Schuyler County Ambulance and Schuyler County Sheriff’s Department, the Iowa State Patrol and the Iowa Department of Transportation.

The accident was investigated by the Missouri Highway State Patrol Major Crash Unit. No summons were issued.
