Fire Destroys Two Buildings in Rutledge

A fire at a demolition site in Rutledge spread to an adjoining property Sunday afternoon forcing the Rutlegde Fire Department into action.

Emergency responders were dispatched when the fire call came in at 1:49 p.m. on April 6th to the properties located northeast of the Rutledge post office.

Fourteen volunteer firemen answered the call with three fire trucks. The fire department was on the scene for approximately 2 hours.

The fire was reportedly started by a cigarette butt that ignited ruble at the first property that was being demolished. Windy conditions spread the blaze to the adjoining property. Both buildings were unoccupied.
