School To Host Retirement Party For Staff

On Sunday, May 18th the Class of 2008 at Scotland County R-I High School will celebrate the start of a new era with graduation.

A number of educators at SCR-I will be hosting a similar celebration a few days earlier. Staff members are hosting a special retirement party for seven long-time teachers that will be leaving the district at the end of the school year.

The retirement party to honor Jeannie Childress, Teresa Cotton, Terri Emel, Jo Beth Harvey, Linda Marlowe, Shari Moore and Jim Morgan will be held from 2:00 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. on Friday, May 9th in the high school commons.

Harvey is completing her 31st year with the district. The physical education and health teacher holds the longest tenure among the retiring group. Terri Emel narrowly missed that honor. The fifth grade teacher started at SCR-I in 1978.

Marlowe, a kindergarten teacher, joined the district in 1980. Morgan, who serves as the school’s technical director, started with the district in 1983 as a math teacher. Shari Moore joined the faculty in 1985. She is retiring from the elementary school counselor position. Jeannie Childress taught several different grades at the elementary school since joining the team in 1986. She currently works in the Title program. Cotton, a fourth grade teacher, started at SCR-I in 1995.
