Pool Set to Kickoff 2008 Season on Saturday

School is out for summer, Memorial Day is just around the corner so that means the Memphis Swimming Pool will be open for business.

The lifeguards will sound their whistles for the first time on Saturday, May 24th as the pool officially opens for 2008 at 1:00 p.m.

“Remember to lather up with sunscreen and bring a towel, and we will provide the fun, sun and water,” said Memphis City Pool Manager Tonya Hunt.

Once the season gets rolling there will be few moments when the water isn’t in use. The facility will once again host Canoka Swim Team practice, lifeguard certification training, water aerobics, Arthritis Foundation water exercise programs, American Red Cross swim lessons, and private swim lessons with certified lifeguards.

In an effort to accommodate additional after-hour programs, the business hours have been changed, with the pool closing one hour earlier, operating from 1:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. It will still remain available seven days a week.

This change will facilitate an expansion of the private pool party program.

“We now can have two pool parties every night,” explained Hunt. “The first pool party is from 6:00 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. and the second party time is 7:40 p.m. to 9:10 p.m.”

These private events can be booked for 1-25 participants at a cost of $35. The cost for 26 - 50 participants is $50 with larger crowds costing $75.

Rental for the entire three hours of pool party is still available upon request through the manager.

In addition to the added party times, the pool will begin offering an adult lap swim June 17th. The pool will be reserved every Tuesday and Thursday evening from 6:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. for this special exercise opportunity for swimmers age 18 and over.

“I have had quite a few adults state that they wish that they had a time that the pool was not so full so they could do laps or simply swim, so I have taken this request and have made it a reality,” Hunt stated. “So please come join us.”

The pool will continue to offer early morning adult lap swim on Monday, Wednesday and Friday from 6:00 a.m. to 7:00 a.m. beginning June 9th.

Family Nights will be held each Monday night from 6:00 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. beginning on June 30th.

For questions, or to book a pool party call 465-2162 after May 24th. Before May 24th call 216-4387.

“My guards and I are looking forward to an awesome year at the pool,” Hunt said. “I want everyone to know that if I have to cancel due to weather, mechanical or census concerns I will contact KMEM as soon as I possible to announce the cancellations.”
