Pickup Truck Destroyed in Fire Accident

Taking out the trash cost a St. Charles man his pickup. According to the Scotland County Fire Department, a 2006 GMC Canyon crewcab truck owned by Donald G. Baugh was totally destroyed by fire.

The accident occurred at 4:01 p.m. on July 14th. The fire department responded to the emergency call at the Jim Johnson residence on a county gravel road off of Route B, west of Memphis.

Baugh reportedly had driven down to a burn pile with a load of trash. He apparently parked too close to the burning refuse, which appeared to have spread through the underbrush and ignited the truck.

Six firemen responded to the scene with three fire trucks. The pickup was completely engulfed by flames when the first responders arrived. The blaze was brought under control with the use of chemical extinguishers that smothered the fire that had melted the truck’s fuel tank and exposed a full load of gasoline that fueled the blaze.

The firemen were on the scene for approximately 30 minutes. The Scotland County Sheriff’s Department assisted at the scene.
