Police Proclaim Plans to Enforce City Curfew

Faced with a growing number of instances of vandalism, Memphis Police Chief John Myers informed the Memphis City Council that he planned to begin enforcing the city’s curfew.

City ordinance establishes a curfew from midnight to 6:00 a.m. for all individuals under the age of 18.

Myers presented a proposal at the August 7th council meeting to extend the curfew time to 11:00 p.m.

The council agreed to the time change but supported changing the age restrictions to anyone under the age of 16.

An ordinance reflecting the changes will be reviewed at the September council meeting.
