Fire Destroys Pickup On Goat Road

A late model pickup was a total loss following a fire at approximately 9:00 a.m. on August 18th in rural Scotland County.

The Scotland County Fire Department was dispatched to Goat Road, located just off Highway 136, east of Memphis.

The late 80’s model ford pick-up owned by Doug Robinson was totally engulfed by flames when Scotland County Sheriff’s Deputy Bryan Whitney arrived first on the scene. He was unable slow the spread of the fire with his extinguisher.

Firemen doused the remainder of the blaze and prevented it from spreading to the adjoining field.

Robinson had been checking cattle and had just started the truck to return home when he noticed smoke and heat coming from the engine compartment.

Six volunteer firemen answered the emergency call taking three fire trucks to the scene where they were in service for approximately one hour.
