Burglars Target Church’s Fair Proceeds

A thief or thieves apparently was targeting profits from a busy weekend at the Scotland County Antique Fair during a break in at the Memphis United Methodist Church.

The Memphis Police Department reported access was gained to the church late Saturday evening or early Sunday morning when a window air conditioning unit was removed.

While the leftovers from the church’s food stand were in the church office, the money from the church’s fundraiser, was not, forcing the burglar(s) to leave empty handed.

Entry was gained to the church sometime after 9:30 p.m. on August 23rd and 7:30 a.m. August 24th.

The police department is investigating a number of leads, but anyone that may have noticed any strange traffic in the area is asked to contact the MPD at 465-2612.

The department is also investigating the theft of an orange Mongoose bicycle taken Saturday evening during the Antique Fair. The bike was taken from behind Community Bank of Memphis.
