Memphis Area Pregnancy Center Receives State Tax Credit Status

The new Memphis Area Pregnancy Center has been approved to participate in the Missouri Division of Social Services’ tax credit program for pregnancy centers operating in Missouri.

The funding will help the center continue to offer resources such as free pregnancy testing, confidential peer consultation with someone who cares, post-abortion support, adoption information and referrals, chaplain support, prenatal referrals and assistance, maternity housing referrals, abstinence education, educational presentations, maternity and infant clothing and parenting education.

All services of the Memphis Area Pregnancy Care Center are free and confidential.

A pregnancy resource center is a tax-exempt, non-residential facility located in Missouri. These centers assist women with unplanned or crisis pregnancies and encourage women to carry their pregnancies to term by offering pregnancy testing and counseling with emotional and material support.

By contributing to a qualified pregnancy resource center, Missouri taxpayers help fund services for women with unplanned or crisis pregnancies while earning a state tax credit.

“We are a non-profit ministry dedicated to helping you with decisions about your pregnancy and related concerns,” stated board member Ellen Aylward. “You will be received with kindness, compassion, respect and courtesy as we focus on meeting your physical, emotional and spiritual needs.”

Local organizers hope the state tax credits will go a long way in making this happen.

There is a $100 minimum contribution, of which 50% is tax-credit-eligible. Donors can claim up to a $50,000 credit per tax year.

The pregnancy resource center and the taxpayer must complete their portion of the Pregnancy Resource Center Tax Credit Application. Applications and supporting documentation must be submitted to DSS by the qualified center within twelve (12) months of the donation date.

In conjunction with the announcement the Memphis Area Pregnancy Center will be having an open house this Sunday, October 5th from 1:30 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. Anyone who would like to view the facility and hear about the programs can stop by the office at 209 E. Monroe, behind the abstract office.

Pam Blaine is the director of the center and is on the board. Aylward serves as secretary/treasurer of the board and other board members are Dr. Darrell Monroe, Dr. Jeff Davis and Mike Blaine.

“We have a host of volunteers who have undergone training to serve as peer counselors,” Aylward stated. “Anyone interested in volunteering or making a contribution and participating in the state tax credit program should contact the Pregnancy Center at 465-7179. “

The amount of the claimed tax credit may not exceed the amount of the taxpayer’s state income tax liability for the year the credit is being claimed.

Any tax credit that cannot be claimed in the tax year associated with the contribution may be carried forward and used against a taxpayer’s state tax liability for four subsequent years.

Tax credits are issued in the amount of 50% of the qualifying contribution.

The Memphis Area Pregnancy Care Center helps patrons make healthy and informed decisions by providing the 4 H’s, Hope, Help, Healing and Health.

The center offers:

Hope for women and men facing unintended pregnancies in a non-judgmental, caring, confidential environment where they can receive accurate information about all their options and be supported throughout the decision-making process.
