Driver Ticketed Following Three-Car Pileup on US136

There was no water, but that didn’t keep a 16-foot Galaxy pleasure boat from traveling a few hundred feet through the air after a three-vehicle accident at the intersection of Highway 15 and Highway 136 west of Memphis at 9:50 p.m. on Sunday, August 3rd.

According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol, David L. Peterson, 47 of Memphis was westbound on Highway 136 in a 2007 Ford pickup. Peterson was stopped in the westbound lane, waiting to make a lefthand turn onto Highway 15 south. The pickup was pulling a trailer loaded with the boat. A 2008 Dodge pickup driven westbound by Oren L. Simmons, 63, of Lancaster failed to yield and struck the boat trailer, ejecting the boat into Peterson’s truck bed where it impacted the rear window before traveling off the north side of Highway 136.

The impact of the collision forced Simmons’ truck into the eastbound lane of Highway 136 where it struck an eastbound 1997 Chrysler van driven by Clair M. High, 32, of Gorin.

High suffered minor injuries and refused treatment at the scene. Simmons also suffered minor injuries and refused treatment at the scene. A passenger in his truck, Carol A. Richards, 60, of Lancaster, suffered minor injuries and was transported by Scotland County Ambulance Service to Scotland County Memorial Hospital.

Simmons was arrested for driving while intoxicated and careless and imprudent driving.

The Patrol was assisted at the scene by the Scotland County Sheriff’s Department, the ambulance service, the Memphis Police Department and by Scotland County Fire and Rescue.
