VERLEE JUNE DELANEY
(6/18/1921 – 1/11/2008)



Verlee June Delaney, age 86, of Baring, Missouri, passed away Friday, January 11, 2008, at the Loch Haven Nursing Home in Macon, Missouri.

Verlee was born June 18, 1921, in Knox County, Missouri, the daughter of Claude Ernest and Maude Edith McAnulty Dunn.

She was raised in rural Baring graduating from the Baring High School in 1939. Verlee attended Kirksville State Teachers College, now Truman State University, and earned a teaching certificate. She taught in rural one-room schools until her marriage to Maurice “Tom” Delaney, November 24, 1943. After their marriage, she taught one full year at Baring School and then was a substitute teacher in Knox County Schools for almost 50 years. She and her husband farmed, living southwest of Baring for more than 60 years.

She was interim Postmistress for Baring in 1960. She enjoyed community activities and working on the farm along side Tom. Verlee rarely missed a family or church event.

She and her husband enjoyed traveling throughout the United States.

Verlee was a member of the St. Aloysius Catholic Church, St. Aloysius Altar Society, Red Hats Society, former member of Friendship Corner Extension Club, Board of Knox County Health Department, Board of Farmers Home Administration, 4-H Leader, Knox County Farm Bureau and Baring Country Club.

Surviving are two daughters, Barbara and her husband Danny Primm of Macon, Missouri and Shari and her husband Bill Kist of Magnolia, Arkansas, four sisters, Velma Aldridge of Brashear, Missouri, Doris Whalen of Quincy, Illinois, Joan Hurley and husband, Jack, of Willowbrook, Illinois, and Joyce Holdren and husband, Bill, of Baring, Missouri, six grandchildren, Andy and his wife Melissa Primm of Macon, Missouri, Chad and his wife Deana Primm of Cameron, Missouri, Steve Primm of Ennis, Montana, Beverly and her husband Rob Rollings of Sedalia, Missouri, Greg and his wife Amanda Primm of Liberty, Missouri, and Matt Kist of Columbia, Missouri, seven great grandchildren, Drew, Jacob, Alex and Ellie Primm, Emma, Sadie and Jude Rollings, sisters-in-law Eileen and her husband Bert Wiggenjost of West Point, Iowa and Helen Delaney of Kirksville, Missouri, and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and a host of friends.

Verlee was preceded in death by her parents; husband Maurice John “Tom” Delaney November 10, 2002, and 5 year old daughter Beverly Kay Delaney on January 31, 1955.

A Mass of Christian Burial was held January 14, 2008, at the St. Aloysius Catholic Church in Baring, Missouri. Father Bill Kottenstette officiated the services. Burial was in the St. Aloysius Cemetery.

Music was provided by Katie and Maggie Delaney, organists and Jim and Kyle Clark, vocalists.

Casket bearers were Andrew, Steve, Chad, Greg, and Drew Primm and Matt Kist and Rob Rollings.

Expressions of sympathy in memory of Verlee J. Delaney may be made to the St. Aloysius Cemetery or the Special Care Unit at Loch Haven Nursing Home.
