BERNICE VERLEE HATHAWAY

Bernice Verlee Hathaway, 95, of Lancaster, MO, passed away on February 4, 2008, at the Schuyler County Nursing Home in Queen City, MO, where she had been a resident since November 6. 2007.

The daughter of William Pearl and Maude (Allen) Redding, she was born June 6, 1912 in rural Lancaster, MO.

She was united in marriage to Chester A. Powell on June 1, 1929 and to this union two daughters were born, Anna Lee and Carol. Chester preceded her in death on March 15, 1956 and on December 29, 1959 she was united in marriage to Ebben Harvey Hathaway and he also preceded her in death on March 23, 1967.

Survivors include her two daughters, Anna Lee Edwards of Lancaster, MO and Carol Havel and husband, Delbert of Grinnell, IA; six grandchildren, Di Zook of Lancaster, MO, Donna Moffett and husband, Gary of Queen City, MO, Stanley Havel and wife, Barb of Grinnell, IA, Janet Havel of Grinnell, IA, Jeff Havel and wife, Joni of Grinnell, IA and Richard Havel and wife, Debbie of Solon, IA; 13 great-grandchildren; 12 great-great-grandchildren; other family members and many good friends and neighbors.

Bernice is preceded in death by her father, William Pearl Redding in August 1969 and her mother, Maude (Allen) Redding in June 1977, both husbands and one sister, Doris Sojka.

Bernice was member of the Lancaster Christian Church of Lancaster, MO, Royal Neighbors and the Rebekahs.

Funeral services will be held on Thursday, February 7, 2008 at 2:00 p.m. at the Norman Funeral Home in Lancaster, MO with Pastor Sonny Smyser of the United Methodist Church in Lancaster, MO officiating. Music will be provided by Pat Swedberg, organist and Cole Tippett, soloist. Pallbearers will be Roger B. Wilson, Anthony Wilson, Corey Wilson, Stanley Havel, Jeff Havel, and Richard Havel. Honorary pallbearers will be Christopher Moffett, Poe Steggall, Gary Moffett and Jeremy Bailey. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the funeral services at the Norman Funeral Home in Lancaster, MO. Memorials have been established for the Schuyler County Nutrition Site. Burial will be in the Downing Cemetery in Downing, MO. Arrangements are under the direction of the Norman Funeral Home of Lancaster, MO.
