CURTIS GLIDEWELL
(11/8/1932 - 3/20/2008)



Curtis Glidewell, 75, of Memphis, Missouri died March 20, 2008 at the Scotland County Hospital in Memphis.

He was born November 8, 1932 in Milan, Missouri to William and Nora Payne Glidewell. He also attended a year of college while serving in the military. He was a veteran serving in the U.S. Army. He married Beverly Bernice Wagner on June 30, 1956 at Aurora, Illinois. To this union four children were born.

Curtis owned Coal City Transfer Trucking Company at Aurora, Illinois for ten years. He also worked for ABF Trucking. He was a member of the Eagles Club and the Tiger Club in Aurora, Illinois. Curtis was a Life member of the National Rifle Association. Curtis enjoyed hunting and fishing.

He is survived by his wife of 51˝ years, Beverly Glidewell, of Memphis; two daughters, Sharon Sponseller and her husband, Rick, of Memphis, Missouri and Elizabeth Van DeVeire and her husband, Dale, of Yorkville, Illinois and a son, Kevin Glidewell and his wife, Eva, of Mesa, Arizona. Also surviving are nine grandchildren: Shawn Glidewell, Crystal Cotton, Julie Cotton, Jaclyn Taylor, Cassandra Van DeVeire, Briana Van DeVeire, Damien Glidewell, Gabriel Glidewell and Nicholas Glidewell; four step-grandchildren: Wendy Sponseller, Zachary Sponseller, Denell Van DeVeire and Ben VanDeVeire; one great-granddaughter and four step-great-grandchildren; one sister, Bev Tavegia and a brother, Doug Wagner; a sister-in-law, two brothers-in- law and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

He was preceded in death by a son, Bryan Keith Glidewell and his parents, Nora and William Glidewell.

Funeral services were held at Memphis Funeral Home on March 25, 2008 with the Pastor Mark Appold officiating. Music was provided by Joan Hinds and Crystal Cotton. Burial was in the Memphis Cemetery. Casket bearers were Michael Baish, Dale Van DeVeire, Jim Carlson, Damien Glidewell, Wayne Howard, Casey Morehead, Mark Holt and Jim Dalton. Memorials may be made to St. Paul’s Lutheran Church and may be mailed to or left at the Memphis Funeral Home, 378 South Market Street, Memphis, Missouri 63555.
