CALLIE C. SMITH
(2/11/1908 - 3/28/2008)



Callie C. Smith, 100, formerly of Rutledge, Missouri died March 28, 2008 in the Scotland County Care Center, Memphis, Missouri. She was born February 11, 1908 in Scotland County, Missouri to Floyd William Crump and Gussie Trotter Crump. She married Troy R. Smith in Eldon, Missouri on November 17, 1934. He preceded her in death on April 4, 2000.

Callie graduated from Rutledge Grade School and High School. She then received her BS from Culver Stockton College and her MS from Kirksville State Teacher College. Children’s education was her primary interest throughout life. She taught in elementary schools in LaGrange, Missouri, Bible Grove, Missouri, both elementary and high school in Rutledge, Missouri, 22 years as Scotland County Superintendent of Schools, and several years as a high school counselor in Durant, Iowa. She retired in 1973 to her farm home in Rutledge and spent many hours volunteering with various organizations.

Survivors are two daughters: Marjorie Delaney and husband Bill of East Peoria, Illinois and Dawn Kirkpatrick and husband Neal of Lake Mary, Florida. Also surviving are three grandsons: Scott Delaney of Phoenix, Arizona, Greg Delaney of Ponte Vedra Beach, Florida, and Drew Delaney of Chandler, Arizona, plus one granddaughter, Ann Kirkpatrick of Frisco, Texas, and ten great-grand children.

Callie was a member of Jauflione Chapter of Daughters of the American Revolution, Scotland County Retired Teachers Assoc., Missouri Retired Teachers Assoc., Order of Eastern Stars, and the Rutledge New Testament Church. She was formerly active in the North East Missouri Area Agency on Aging, the Business and Professional Women Association, the Mental Health Assoc., Scotland County Historical Society, and the Northeast Missouri County Superintendent of Schools Association.

In lieu of flowers, the family has suggested memorials to the Scotland County Care Center, the Pauline Cemetery, or the Sandhill Cemetery and may be left at the Payne Funeral Chapel, 202 E. Madison, Memphis, Missouri 63555.

Funeral Services were held April 1, 2008 at the New Testament Church, Rutledge, MO, with Rev. Charles Hammack officiating. Musicians were pianist Ann Kirkpatrick and soloist LaMayra Brown. Pallbearers were Scott Delaney, Greg Delaney, Drew Delaney, Ann Kirkpatrick, Chad York, and Dennis Blaine. Interment was in the Pauline Cemetery, Rutledge, MO.

Arrangements were under the direction of the Payne Funeral Chapel, Memphis, MO.
