JOHN JUNIOR SCHMITTER
(7/5/1919-4/13/2008)



John Junior Schmitter, 88, of Lancaster, MO, passed away at the Northeast Regional Medical Center in Kirksville, MO, April 13, 2008.

The son of John Jacob and Emma Helen (Snowbarger) Schmitter, he was born on July 5, 1919 in rural Queen City, MO.

On September 22, 1955 at the Lutheran parsonage in Queen City, MO, he was united in marriage to Martha Pearl Yearns.

Survivors include his wife, Martha Schmitter of Lancaster, MO; two sisters, Helen Manning of Lancaster, MO and Avis Farrell and husband, Frankie of Lancaster, MO; sisters-in-law, Geneva Yearns of Queen City, MO and Rose Mary Kollaszar and husband, Dave of Queen City, MO; brothers-in-law, Clifford Yearns and wife, Nina of Downing, MO, Leroy Yearns and wife, Terri of Queen City, MO, Eugene Yearns and wife, Nikki of Queen City, MO and Earl Dean Yearns and wife, Kathy of Queen City, MO; nieces and nephews, Forrest Farrell, Ivas Kay Shelby, Larry Webster, Jean Ann Sidwell, Margueritte Moore, Rita Crane, Geraldine Rowland, Shirley Manning, Norma Lee Grimley, Dwayne, Darel, Dale, Gary, Wanda, John, Pat, Joan, Kelly, Kimberly, Bill, Michelle, Terry, Marcia, Jim, Jay, Bonnie, Micheal, Ashley, Ricky, Timmy, Robby, Mandy and Jason; several great-nieces and nephews; other family members and a special family friend, Tracy Gates of Lancaster, MO.

Junior is preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Paul Edwin Schmitter; one sister, Mary Louise Webster; three brothers-in-law, Loyd Manning, Eugene Webster and Otto Yearns; two sisters-in-law, Hildred Schmitter and Mary Ann Yearns; father and mother-in-law, Harold and Mabel Yearns; four nephews, Franklin Farrell, Gary Webster, Curtis Lamb and Jack Moore; two great-nephews, Eric Webster and Allen Lee Lamb and one niece, Connie Webster.

Junior was a member of the St. Johnís Lutheran Church. He was also a county commissioner for Schuyler County for 14 years and was a farmer, which he enjoyed working with his livestock.

Funeral service were held Thursday, April 17, 2008 at the Norman Funeral Home in Lancaster, MO with Jeremy McElvain, pastor of the St. Johnís Lutheran Church of Queen City, MO, assisted by Sonny Smyser, pastor of the United Methodist Church of Lancaster, MO officiating. Music was provided by pianist, Pat Swedberg and soloist Jeremy McElvain. Pallbearers were Forrest Farrell, Don Rowland, Larry Webster, Edwin Schubert, Gilbert Schmitter and Mark Bushnell. Memorials have been established for the family. Burial will be in the Arni Memorial Cemetery in Lancaster, MO. Arrangements are under the direction of the Norman Funeral Home of Lancaster.
