ELMER A. KAY

Elmer A. Kay, 86, of Montrose, IA, died Monday, June 16, 2008 at the Montrose Health Center.

He was born on July 12, 1921 in Donnellson, IA, the son of Leroy and Dorothy Jackson Kay. He first married Jessie Taylor. He then married Mary Alma Powers. She preceded him in death on April 17, 2006.

He had been employed at Electro Metals/Foote Mineral in Keokuk for over 42 years retiring in 1978.

He was a member of the New Testament Christian Church in Keokuk and the Operating Engineers Union.

Elmer had been a crop farmer and raised livestock, horses and ponies. He was a very talented welder and enjoyed building wagons and stage coaches.

He is survived by two daughters, Ellen Kay of Gorin, MO and Joanna Bertram and her husband Darwin of Montrose, IA, one son, John Lee Kay and his wife Sheila of Keokuk, IA, one son-in-law, Kenneth Cline of Montrose, IA, twelve grandchildren, Allen Cline, Heather McDowell and her husband Eddie, John Joseph Kay and his wife Denise, Jeff Kay, April Smith and her husband Chris, Mary Tuttle and her husband Doug, Patty Parrish and her husband John, J.R. Barnes and his wife Rose Ann, Michael Barnes and his wife Karen, Kim Noble and her husband Larry, Evonne Plate and her husband Chris, and Fred Bertram and his wife Angie, 25 great-grandchildren, three great-great-grandchildren, two brothers, Donald Kay and his wife Loretta of Keokuk, IA and Herbie Kay and his wife Pat of Keokuk, IA and one sister, Martha Brown of Montrose, IA.

He was also preceded in death by one daughter, Rosamary Cline, one grandson, Daniel Cline, one great-granddaughter, Megan Jo Fuller, and four brothers, Raymond Kay, Harold Kay and two in infancy.

Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m., Thursday, June 19, 2008 at the Vigen Memorial Home in Keokuk, IA with Brother Bill Hauser officiating. Burial will be in the Oakland Cemetery in Keokuk.

Memorials may be made to the New Testament Christian Church in Keokuk, IA.
