RICHEY L. SWARTZ

Richey L. Swartz Sr., 85, of Burbank, OH, passed away at his home on June 21, 2008.

Funeral services were held June 25, 2008, at Murray Funeral Home in Creston, OH with the Rev. Timothy Bleigh officiating. Burial was in Burbank Cemetery.

Richey was born April 14, 1923, in Scotland County, MO, the son of the late William H. and Edna (Lawrence) Swartz.

He married Frances Packard on June 9, 1946, and she survives.

He was a graduate of Memphis (MO) High School and attended numerous school reunions of the years.

He and his family moved to Burbank, OH, in 1943 and that same year he entered the U.S. Army serving in Company B 709th Tank Battalion from 1943-46. He served in the European Theatre and in five major campaigns including the Battle of the Bulge. At one time he served under General Patton. In later years he traveled to various states to attend his Army Reunions.

He retired from Leslie Locke Manufacturing in Lodi, following 26 years service and had also operated a small farm west of Burbank.

Richey was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church, had served on the Burbank Fire and Emergency Medical Service Department and worked numerous years at the Sticky Finger Sugar Camp. He was an avid turkey, bear and deer hunter and enjoyed hunting with family and friends at camp near Fort Allegheny, PA. He enjoyed woodworking and story telling.

He is survived by his wife, Frances; children, Daniel and Kris Swartz of West Salem, OH, Bonnie and Bob Rogal of Newcomerstown, OH, Mary and Fred Schwartz and Betty Swartz of Burbank, OH; daughter-in-law, Pat Gray of West Salem, OH; 11 grandchildren, Cortney (Larry) Fairbanks, Jennifer Glancy, Paul (Lisa) Swartz, Greg Swartz, Ryan Swartz, Sam Rogal, Nic Swartz, Amanda (Paul) Sand, Erin (Danny) Yourd, Kyle Painter and Daniel Painter; five great-grandchildren, Emily, Blair, Kayla, Noah and Katie; three sisters, Carrie (Dwight) Keltz of Seville, OH, Mary (Arthur) Christopher of Smithville, OH, and Loretta (Charlie) Walter of Maricopa, AZ; a brother, William (Brenda) Swartz II of Arcadia, FL, and nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by a son, Richey Swartz, Jr. and a sister, Elaine Brown.
