ANNA LEE MATHES

Anna Lee Mathes, 91, of Memphis, Missouri passed away July 9, 2008 at the Scotland County Memorial Hospital in Memphis, Missouri. She was born July 4, 1917, the daughter of Arthur M. and Cleo Reed Robinson. She married James D. Mathes September 22, 1937. He preceded her in death in 1978.

Shortly before World War II, they moved to Chicago, where she welded anchor chain as her part in supporting the war effort. After World War II, she moved back to Missouri, where she farmed. Later she returned to Chicago. In the mid 70ís she returned to Missouri to stay there. After the passing of her husband, she moved in to Memphis where she had lived ever since.

She led a full life, enjoying her hand-piecing quilts and driving the tractor as she farmed.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, and one brother, (Harold E. Robinson).

She is survived by one brother, Arthur R. Robinson, a sister, Illa Mae Mackie and numerous nephews and nieces, great-nephews, and great-nieces, all of whom will miss her dearly.

Funeral services were held on Monday, July 14, 2008 at the Payne Funeral Chapel, Memphis, MO, with Larry Smith, officiating. Pallbearers were Frank Reed, Tom Fay, Gene Robinson, Leon Orton, Don Harker and Norris Gaffney. Interment was in the Memphis Cemetery, Memphis, MO.

Memorials are suggested to the Scotland County Nutrition Center or the Adair County Humane Society and can be left at or mailed to the Payne Funeral Chapel, 202 East Madison, Memphis, Missouri, 63555.
