WILMA JOAN PURVIS BEASLEY
(8/29/1930 - 12/12/2007)



Wilma Joan Purvis Beasley, 77, of Memphis passed away on December 12, 2007 at the Scotland County Care Center in Memphis. She was born August 29, 1930, in Scotland County, MO.

Wilma Joan was known as “Joni” to her friends and family, she was the first born daughter of Joseph and Cleo. She was a graduate of Memphis High School, she left Scotland County after her first marriage to Ward Erwin, to live in Miami Florida, Davenport Iowa, Southern and Northern California, and eventually to Gardnerville, Nevada with her second husband, William Beasley.

In her life Joni worked as a waitress, Sunday school teacher, ran her own daycare for younger children, was a pharmacy cashier, and then as a cashier for Harvey’s Resort Hotel at Stateline, Nevada. Joni was an avid gardener and collector of antiques, an animal lover and enjoyed many vacations and travel with her husband Bill, especially to visit their families and to winter in Alamo, Texas.

Joni is survived by her sisters Esty Eyler of Baring, MO and Margaret Watson of Memphis, MO. Her two children Rebecca Taggart of Colorado Springs, CO, and Joseph Erwin of Orlando, FL and two stepdaughters Wendy Hill and her husband Brian, Carrie O’Brien and her husband Mike all of Elko, NV.

She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband William in 2006.

Memorial Services were held on Sunday, July 20, 2008, at 3:30 p.m. at the Payne Funeral Chapel, Memphis, MO, with Bro. Mike Wilson, officiating. Inurnment was in the Memphis Cemetery, Memphis, MO.
