VIRGINIA “LUCY” HICKS
(9/28/1938 – 7/29/2008)



Virginia “Lucy” Hicks, 69, of rural Memphis, MO, passed away at her home on July 29, 2008. The daughter of Carl and Nellie May Grisham Westmoreland, she was born on September 28, 1938, at Elijah, MO. She married Frank Hicks on December 26, 1954, he passed away on March 22, 1986.

She worked for the Glove Factory in Edina, MO for seventeen years. Lucy lived a life of loving God and her family. She loved to decorate the inside of her house at Christmas time.

She was preceded in death by her father, step-father, Junior Cardwell, a very good friend, Vern Woods and her brother-in-law, Bob Francis.

She is survived by her mother, Nellie May Cardwell, three sons; Eddie L. Hicks and wife Barb of Edina, MO Terry L. Hicks and wife Patty of Bethel, MO, and Gary L. Hicks and wife Wanda of Brashear, MO, a step-brother, Leroy Cardwell and wife Marilyn of Novelty, MO, a step-sister Shirley Phillips of Southern Missouri, nine grandchildren: Amy Walker and husband Jesse, Jeremy Hicks and wife LaMayra, Cassy Long and husband Russell, James Hicks, Michael Holcomb and wife Lorie, Carla Stutsman and husband Colby, Amanda Cannaday and husband Mike, Eddie Hicks, Jr., and John Frank Hicks, five step-grandchildren; Jess Keough, Tish Walker, Zach Keough, Gabe Keough and Quin Keough, sixteen great-grandchildren. Two sisters; Lenora Francis of Norborne, MO and Helen Schoonover and husband Dick of Kirksville, MO. One brother Jim Westmoreland of Kirksville, MO, very close friend Shirley Westmoreland of Kirksville, MO, several nieces and nephews and a host of relatives and friends.

Memorials are suggested to the Scotland County Cancer Fund or the Church of Christ and may be left at or mailed to the Payne Funeral Chapel, 202 E. Madison, Memphis, MO 63555.

Funeral services were held on Friday August 1, 2008, at 1:30 p.m. at the Payne Funeral Chapel, Memphis, MO, with Dr. Jeff Davis, Church of Christ and Chaplin Carrol Davenport, Hospice of Northeast Missouri, officiating. Pallbearers were: Rob Long, Steve Long, Chuck Long, Jeff Francis, Jim Francis, and Jimmy Westmoreland. Interment was in the I.O.O.F. Cemetery, Hurdland, MO. Arrangements were handled by the Payne Funeral Chapel, Memphis, MO.
