GERALD W. PURVIS

Gerald W. Purvis, 75, of Memphis, MO, passed away on Thursday, September 25, 2008, at his home in Memphis. Gerald was born on February 23, 1933, in rural Scotland County, MO, the son of Hobert and Edith Henry Purvis. Gerald attended rural schools in Louisa County, IA. Gerald moved to Rock Island, IL where he worked for Peerless, Sanitary and retired from Land O Lakes Dairy as a route salesman. In 1952 he was united in marriage to Marilyn Sue Nelson and to this union three sons were born.

Gerald loved traveling, fishing, going to the casinos, camping, and spent several winters in Florida. He loved when the family got together for family reunions. Gerald liked going to Gas & More for coffee in the early morning with his buddies.

He was preceded in death by his parents, one son Gerald W. Purvis, Jr., three brothers, and one sister.

He is survived by his two sons Gene and wife Sandy Purvis of East Moline, IL, Terry and Sheila Purvis, Fouke, AR; six grandchildren: Greg, Steven, James, Alex, Robert and Johnny; two great-grandchildren: Justin and Austin; a brother Richard Purvis and his wife Shirley of Plano, TX; two sisters Dorothy Franklin and her husband Paul of Memphis, MO and Mary Atkinson of Moline, IL; two sisters-in-law Fredina Purvis of Sylvis, IL and Jean Purvis of Alameda, CA; two aunts Alberta Shempp and Velma Lowe of Golden, CO; along with several nieces an nephews.

Funeral services were scheduled for September 29, 2008 at the Payne Funeral Chapel in Memphis. Officiating the service was Brother Jack Sumption. Interment followed in the Bible Grove Christian Church Cemetery in rural Scotland County. Pallbearers were Greg Purvis, Steven Purvis, James Purvis, Duane Smith, Jerry Hyde and Gary Madsen. Memorials are suggested to the Bible Grove Christian Church Cemetery Fund, and may be left at or mailed to the Payne Funeral Chapel, 202 E. Madison, Memphis, MO 63555.

Arrangements were under the direction of the Payne Funeral Chapel in Memphis.
