EMERY WAYNE MUMFORD
(4/12/1922 – 10/24/2008)



Emery Wayne Mumford, age 86, of Rutledge, Missouri passed away Friday, October 24, 2008 at Hannibal Regional Hospital in Hannibal, Missouri.

He was born April 12, 1922 in Knox County, Missouri, the son of Lee O. and Velma Tonnies Mumford.

On July 27, 1947 he was united in marriage to Lola Trent and she survives.

Surviving is his wife, Lola Mumford of Rutledge, Missouri; one son, Monty Mumford and wife Ruth of Memphis, Missouri; one daughter, Jada Steelman and husband Paul of Jefferson City, Missouri; one granddaughter, Hattie Mumford and one great-grandchild, Kaden Ray Steelman. He is also survived by two special nieces, Merlene Trent of Kirksville, Missouri and Rolene Jones of Colony, Missouri and 6,957,854 spiritual brothers and sisters in 236 lands all over the globe.

He was preceded in death by his parents and one sister, Eileen Trent.

Mr. Mumford was a member of the Jehovah’s Witness since 1940 and remained a very active member until the month he died. He began farming in the early 50’s with Robert Trent, Mumford and Trent Farms, and farmed his entire life. He loved to play croquet, homemade ice cream, and Massey-Ferguson tractors. He was a shrewd trader of automobiles and enjoyed conversing with all the local dealerships. He enjoyed spending time with friends and especially his family.

Funeral services were held Tuesday, October 28, 2008 at the Hudson Rimer Funeral Home in Edina, Missouri with Brother Steve Mills officiating. Burial followed at the Colony Cemetery.

Casket bearers were Tom Slates, George Eldredge, Bill Gorrell, George Glascock, Ray Ostlund and Bill Wurtzberger.

Memorials in honor of Wayne Mumford may be made to The Rutledge Congregation of Jehovah’s Witnesses and may be left at or mailed to the Hudson Rimer Funeral Home, P.O. Box 1, Edina, Missouri 63537.
