BETTY RUTH SPEER
(4/10/1931 - 12/11/2001)



Betty Ruth Speer, 80, of Kahoka, MO, formerly of Wyaconda, MO, passed away Sunday, October 26, 2008, in the Clark County Nursing Home in Kahoka.

The daughter of Ernie and Leah (Rominger) Ballew, she was born on June 16, 1928, in Bloomfield, IA. She was a graduate of the Bloomfield High School.

On August 23, 1946, she was married to Ermin R. Speer. He preceded her in death on August 4, 2001.

Betty enjoyed working with ceramics and especially enjoyed her family and friends. She was a member of the Wyaconda Baptist Church.

Also preceding her in death were her parents, one sister, Rhoda Ballew; and three brothers, Tommy, Archie, and Francis Ballew.

Survivors include three children: Sheila York of Kahoka, MO, Mike and Vickie Speer of Kahoka, MO, and Roger and Janie Speer of Luray, MO; six grandchildren, Dr. Brandon and Kindra York of Lake St. Louis, MO, Justin and Danelle Brunk of Kahoka, MO, Kris and Tennielle Speer of Weaver, IA, Angie and Jason Lybarger of Monmouth, IL, Jeff and Heather Brand of Chillicothe, IL, and Jim and Erica Brand of Waverly, IA; and nine great-grandchildren.

Memorial services were held on Wednesday, October 29, 2008, at 11 a.m. at the Bible Baptist Church in Kahoka, MO, with Pastor Orlie Yoder officiating, assisted by Reverend Ernest Deatrick. Music was provided by Holly Lewis, organist, and vocalists Louise Bash and John Spray. Honorary bearers were Brandon York, Kris Speer, Justin Brunk, and Jeff and Jim Brand.

Memorials were suggested to the Bible Baptist Church and may be left at or mailed to Gerth Funeral Service, 115 S. Main St., Memphis, MO 63555.

Arrangements were under the direction of the Gerth Funeral Service of Memphis and Wyaconda.
