Cold Shooting Night Dooms SCR-I in 43-32 Loss to Raiders

The lid on the basket finally came off in the fourth period of Friday night’s consolation finals at the North Shelby Tournament but it was too late for Scotland County. The Tigers struggled through a tough shooting night, dropping the trophy game to the host squad 43-32.

SCR-I managed just four points in the game’s first eight minutes as the Raiders went on top 8-4.

Jacob Howard came off the bench in the second quarter to put in a couple buckets but it wasn’t enough to keep North Shelby from expanding the lead to 20-12 at the break.

The third period was no kinder to the Scotland County offense, as just three shots tickled the twines over the eight minutes. Baskets by Howard, Cody Musgrove and Brandon Garnett were not enough to offset North Shelby’s 13 point outburst as the Raiders led 33-18 with just eight minutes to play.

North Shelby sealed the game at the free throw line, making six of eight from the charity stripe down the stretch. Scotland County made just one of 10 freethrows on the night.

Musgrove scored nine points late and Brandon Garnett hit a three pointer in the fourth period but it wasn’t enough as North Shelby prevailed 43-32.

Cody Stoneburner led all scorers with 18 points for the Raiders (6-6). Musgrove led SCR-I (6-9) with 15 points. Garnett finished with seven and Howard added six points.
