Girls Stay Unbeaten in Conference Play

Just days after knocking off North Shelby in its own tournament, Scotland County had the dubious duty of facing the Raiders in league play on January 22nd in Memphis.

North Shelby looked poised to avenge the loss early on as the Raiders built an 11-6 advantage in the game’s opening period.

But Scotland County rallied to regain an 18-17 lead at the intermission.

The home squad kept the momentum coming out of the locker room to the joy of the home crowd. SCR-I outscored North Shelby 13-0 to lead 31-26 with just eight minutes to play.

Melissa Cotton helped seal the win with a couple clutch three pointers late as Scotland County answered the North Shelby runs and went on to the 45-38 victory.

Kirsten Johnston led all scorers with 18 points as Scotland County improved to 7-8 on the year and 2-0 in Tri-Rivers Conference play. Cotton finished with 10 points and Valerie Oldham added seven. Kelsey Frazier pitched in with five points and grabbed a team-high seven rebounds.
