Slow Start Stalls SCR-I in 53-40 Loss to Unity

The long trip to Unity of Mendon on Thursday night took its toll on Scotland County as the Lady Tigers took too long to get things rolling in the January 23rd make-up of an early season game canceled due to inclement weather.

SCR-I managed just two points in the games opening eight minutes as the Mustangs charged out to a 13-2 lead at the end of the first period.

The Lady Tigers never recovered as they were only able to trade baskets with the host team the remaining three periods.

Unity led 22-11 at halftime after both squads scored nine points in the second period.

SCR-I matched that performance in the third period as the offense came alive in the second half. But the Mustangs surpassed that output, scoring 15 to add to the 37-22 advantage.

The Lady Tigers erupted for 18 fourth quarter points but it was too little too late as Unity prevailed 53-40.

Kirsten Johnston led Scotland County (7-9) with 15 points on the night. Valerie Oldham added 11 points and Melissa Cotton pitched in with eight points.
