Former SCR-I Hurler Bests #1 Ranked Team at Show-Me Classic

The Culver-Stockton College softball dropped two of three games at Evangel’s Show-Me Classic Saturday afternoon in Springfield, Mo.

The Wildcats’ only victory was a 4-1 decision over Oklahoma City University, the top-ranked team in the NAIA Preseason Top 25 national poll.

Sara Eggleston hurled a five hitter and struck out one in defeating the Stars and improving to 2-0 on the season on the mound. Melissa Goehl was 2-for-3 with a run and two RBI. Jackie Clark and Katelin Goddard collected two hits to lead the offense.

In the first game of the day, C-SC dropped a 6-4 decision to Dana (Neb.) in nine innings.

The Wildcats fell in their final game of the tournament, losing to Bellevue (Neb.) 10-2 in a game that was stopped after five innings. Eggleston relieved in the first inning with C-SC already down 7-0 and pitched 3 1/3 innings and allowed just one earned run on two hits over that stretch.

In four appearances this year, Eggleston is 2-0 with a save and sports a minuscule 1.11 earned run average. In 19 innings of work she has allowed just 11 hits and seven walks while striking out six.

C-SC (3-2) will participate in the Oklahoma Baptist Tournament next weekend, March 7-8, in Shawnee, Okla.
