Eggleston Takes Loss Despite Near Perfect Performance
Former Scotland County standout Sara Eggleston was the hard luck loser on Sunday in the opener of a double header against Central Missouri University. Despite recording a shutout through regulation, the Culver Stockton hurler saw her team go down to defeat 1-0 in extra innings.
That has been the story nearly all year for Eggleston who has just a 5-7 record despite posting a minuscule 1.76 ERA. That mark was lower in Sunday’s performance when she pitched into the ninth inning when Danielle Taylor hit a walk-off home run to give CMU the 1-0 victory.
On the afternoon, Eggleston allowed just four hits while striking out five.
She went the distance, as she had done in all 11 previous stars. She has appeared in 14 games, completing all 12 games she has started. Overall she has tossed 87 innings, allowing just 64 hits and 20 walks, while striking out 36. The opposition is hitting just .196 against Eggleston, who has allowed just 18 extra base hits in 327 total plate appearances.
CMU won the nightcap of the doubleheader 5-2 to drop C-SC to 11-16 overall and 3-3 in the Heart of America Athletic Conference.
