Curtis Cochran Claims Title at 2008 Scotland County Fair Demo Derby
A fire in the engine area of the UR12 car of Kenny Lewis signaled the end of a spectacular night of hard-hitting action at the 2008 Scotland County Fair Demolition Derby and left the 77C of Curtis Cochran as the last car standing.
Cochran took home the $750 top prize as well as a $100 bonus as the top Scotland County finisher sponsored by Brush Automotive of Memphis.
Lewis had to settle for second place and the $500 prize after a series of vicious hits left the UR12 with no steering. Michael Garnett took home third prize and $300 for his efforts.
Kevin Koontz closed out his vacation back in Scotland County with a fourth place finish in the derby. However the former Memphis resident likely had to delay his return trip to Florida after he suffered a concussion on the hit that ended his evening. Emergency services personnel removed Koontz from his #43 car after he was knocked unconscious by a hard hit from the #888 car.
In addition to the fourth place finish, Koontz also was awarded the $100 prize for the best of show. The paint job and design on his car was rewarded by prize sponsors Walker Motors, Artís Racemart, FredWrecks and Keithís Cafe.
Skylar Holton took home the top prize in the compact division of the derby. The youngster bested the field of seven cars in a winner-take-all format that earned him a $250 prize.
The first place trophies as well as the best of show trophy were sponsored by Bryan Whitney, Democrat candidate for Scotland County Sheriff.
