Lister Powers Lady Tigers to First Conference Win

A solid defensive performance and some timely hitting allowed the Scotland County softball squad to pick up its first Tri-Rivers Conference win of the season Monday, September 15 in Memphis.

The Lady Tigers topped Clark County 5-2, to improve to 1-1 in league play and 2-6 overall on the season.

SCR-I tallied all five runs in the bottom of the third inning. Kaitlin Caldwell was hit by a pitch to start the rally. She moved to second on a sacrifice by Christina Duzan. Skyler Alderton reached on an error and stole second base before Elizabeth Small delivered an RBI single. Deidra Dochterman followed with a base hit that plated both runners to make it 3-0. Kelly Lister capped the rally with her third home run of the year to make it 5-0.

Clark County cut into the lead in the fourth inning with a two out rally made possible by an error.

The Indians made things interesting in the seventh inning. A walk and two base hits to start the frame made it 5-2 before Lister struck out the next two batters. Valerie Oldham recorded the final out on a nice play at third base to preserve the 5-2 win.

The SCR-I defense worked through a number of scoring threats. Catcher Deidra Dochterman threw out a pair of would-be base stealers during the game.

Lister picked up the victory on the mound going seven innings and allowing just one earned run. She was tagged for nine hits and walked two while striking out three.

Caldwell went 2-2 at the plate with a double and a run score. Dochterman was 2-3 with two RBI and Small also was 2-3.

SCR-I made it a sweep in the junior varsity game with a 4-3 win behind pitcher Elizabeth Duzan.
