Lady Tigers Rally to Best Brookfield 10-7

The Scotland County softball squad came from behind not once, but twice to knock off Brookfield 10-7 in Tri-Rivers Conference action in Memphis on September 22nd.

The Lady Bulldogs jumped on top 4-0 in the top of the second inning, taking advantage of three Scotland County errors to tally the four unearned runs.

Scotland County trimmed the deficit in the bottom of the frame. Kaitlyn Caldwell delivered a bases loaded single that plated Skyler Alderton. An errant throw on the play allowed Valerie Oldham and Loren Smith to cross the plate as well making it 4-3.

The Lady Tigers tied the game at 4-4 in the bottom of the third inning. Smith singled and scored on a triple by Christina Duzan.

Brookfield pulled back ahead in the fifth inning with a pair of hits and two costly fielding miscues that opened the door for three runs.

Scotland County came right back in the bottom of the fifth inning.

Kelly Lister led off with a base hit. Deidra Dochterman followed with a single. Alderton grounded to third base, where the force play was made at the bag. But a throw to second base in an attempt for a double play, sailed into the outfield allowing Dochterman to come all the way around and score. Alderton made it to third and with two outs she tied the game at 7-7 when Smith reached on an error. Caldwell delivered a base hit before Duzan reached on an error to load the bases. Jessica Sites and Elizabeth Small followed with RBI singles that pushed SCR-I on top 10-7.

Lister only allowed one base runner over the final two innings as she was erased at second base when Dochterman gunned her down trying to steal.

Lister picked up the victory on the mound, going seven innings, allowing three hits, two walks and seven strikeouts.

SCR-I improved to 3-8 overall and 2-2 in conference play.
