Bulldogs Send SCR-I to Consolation Bracket

Early foul trouble spelled doom for Scotland County in the second round of the Novinger Tournament. LaPlata outscored the Tigers 22-12 in the second period en route to a 55-37 victory on December 4th.

SCR-I was held to just five points in the first period as the Bulldogs jumped out to a 12-5 advantage. Jacob Howard had a pair of field goals for the Tigers who got into foul trouble that limited Coach Lance Campbell’s option much of the first half.

“We had players rotations planned heading into the game, but all those went out the window,” Campbell said. “I didn’t do a very good job adjusting in the second period and I told the kids that was my fault. We came out in the second half and played them even so I was pleased with our performance.”

Taylor Wheeler took advantage of the Tigers foul trouble, scoring 13 of his game-high 24 points against the Tigers depleted defense in the second period.

Howard had six points in the third period to fuel a mini-rally as SCR-I trimmed the deficit to 43-28.

But the Bulldogs hit six of nine free throws in the fourth period to hold off any SCR-I rally. Howard led SCR-I (1-1) with 16 points. Brandon Garnett added eight points before fouling out.
