SCR-I Buries Gophers 77-13 in Tourney Semis
The century mark appeared to be within reach for Scotland County in the semifinals of the Novinger Tournament before the Lady Tigers backed off the gas in the second half of a 77-13 demolition of Green City in the Novinger Tournament on December 4th.
The Lady Gophers had no answers for the SCR-I full court press. Scotland Countyís pressure defense limited Green City to no more than five points in in any eight-minute period, including a shutout in the third quarter.
The tournamentís top seed had no troubles on the offensive end. All eight players that saw the court got into the scorebook in a very balanced attack.
The Lady Tigers made seven of 10 free throws in the first period en route to a commanding 21-3 lead.
The offensive production actually picked up in the second period, with SCR-I outscoring the Gophers 25-5 to lead 46-8 at the break. Kelsey Frazier poured in eight points to fuel the scoring.
SCR-I enjoyed a 19-0 run in the third period and outscored Green City 12-5 in the final eight minutes all without a pair of starters.
Valerie Oldham finished with 15 points to pace SCR-I (2-0). Frazier and Ashley Tague each added 14 points while Deidra Dochterman made it four players in double-digits with 10 points. Betsey Kittle finished with nine points. Melissa Cotton pitched in with seven points and Kaitlin Caldwell added six points while Anna Duley finished with two points.
