Fatal Medical Attack Leads to Crash on Brock Bottom Bridge
For the second time in less than a week, a medical condition has claimed the life of a motorist in Scotland County, resulting in a vehicle accident.
The traffic accident was reported at 9:43 a.m. on Highway 15, four miles north of Memphis at the “Brock Bottom” bridge.
Several witnesses reported the 2006 Ford Explorer being driven northbound on Highway 15 by Richard N. Koellner, 74, of Milton, IA, had been all over the road since it left Memphis. The vehicle ultimately impacted the southwest bridge abutment at a high rate of speed.
The Missouri State Highway Patrol, Scotland County Sheriff’s Department, as well as the Scotland County Fire & Rescue and Scotland County Ambulance Service responded to the crash scene.
Scotland County Coroner Ginny Monroe pronounced Koellner dead at the scene at 10:05 a.m. His body was extricated from the wreckage by the rescue squad using the Jaws of Life.
Monroe determined that Koellner had suffered a medical condition and had died prior to the crash.
Traffic was halted on Highway 15 for approximately one hour due to the accident.
