Knox County Men Die in Crash After Police Chase

The bodies of two Knox County men were found the morning after a one-vehicle traffic accident claimed their lives near Edina. According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol Jesse H. Shrouf, 22, of Hurdland, was driving a 2008 Pontiac G6 eastbound on Route T, four miles southeast of Edina, when the car failed to negotiate a turn. The vehicle ran off the roadway and struck a ditch before becoming airborne and ultimately landing on its roof.

The crash was believed to have occurred at approximately 9:15 p.m. on Tuesday, January 13th. However the accident was not discovered until the following morning when the vehicle was spotted.

Shrouf, and a passenger in his vehicle Franklin T. Lonberger, 20, of Edina were both pronounced dead at the scene at 9:01 a.m. on Wednesday, January 14th by Knox County Coroner Jeffrey Doss.

According to published reports, the accident occurred after a brief police chase involving the vehicle in the city limits of Edina where a police officer had attempted to stop the car for speeding.

The accident marked the first two fatalities of 2009 recorded by Troop B of the Missouri State Highway Patrol in the 16 northeast Missouri counties.

The Patrol was assisted at the scene by the Knox County Fire and Rescue, Knox County Ambulance Service and the Knox County Sheriff’s Department.
